Chennai: A thief-turned-police informer was hacked to death by a gang while he was drinking liquor atop a public toilet building in Aminjikarai in the early hours of Monday.
Police said Raju alias Deepak Raju, 30, a resident of Adaiyalampattu near Vanagaram, was involved in more than 20 robbery and other cases.
Neighbours found him dead above a public toilet building located in Muthu Mariamman Koil Street at Aminjikarai on Monday morning and informed police.
Police sent the body to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
The Aminjikarai police registered a case and launched a hunt for the murderers.
Raju used to visit his father Srinivasan's house in Aminjikarai during the weekends. On Sunday, he went there and stayed on the roof of the public toilet building, drinking liquor. Early in the morning, unidentified men hacked him to death.
Raju had deserted his wife Mallika and children Kalaivani, Manikandan and Valarmathi. After that, he was living with a widow, identified as Anitha, in Choolaimedu.
