61 accused of two 2002 riots related cases acquitted by North Gujarat court

A local court in Deesa taluka of Banaskantha district in North Gujarat today acquitted all the 61 accused of two cases pertaining to 2002 riots in Thara town of the district post Godhara incident.
PSI of Thara M N Desai said that the first case CR 23/2002 pertaining to rioting and arson in the local market had a total of 32 accused while the second case CR 42/2002 related to damaging of the cabin of a shop and rioting had 31 accused.
The complainant Md. Khan Makrani, a resident of Sipaiwas, in the first case of February 28, 2002 had lodged an FIR under sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 323,337, 435, 436 of the IPC and section 135 of the BP act while sections 143, 427, 435, 436 of the IPC were invoked against the accused in the second case lodged by Shamsher Khan Makrani.
The court after the over a decade long trial finally acquitted all the accused.
