PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Canine Tracking Unit personnel and 10 of its "members" gave their final salutation to senior officer Yogaraja Nadaraja at the department's headquarters at Taman Sentosa, Jalan Klang Lama, near here, today.
The scene was sombre as the personnel, canines, Yogaraja's family members and friends bade farewell at the headquarters.
Earlier, about 150 people lined up to pay their last respects before the cremation ceremony at SS 222, Bukit Tunku.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Canine Tracking Unit fire Superintendent Donny Yap described Yogaraja as a mentor and a father figure to the department.
"He's very strict and dedicated towards his work. He will advise all of us because he has much experience in the field. We have high respect for him," he said.
"His goodwill will never be forgotten," he added.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Canine Tracking Unit personnel senior assistant fire Superintendent Pramnath Harikisna described Yogaraja as an extraordinary man who would help anyone at anytime of the day.
"There's so much words to describe him. He's the one person who will go through a fire and risk his life to save a person. He's determined and brave," Pramnath said.
"He loves animals very much too," he added.
On April 3, the 51-year-old fireman died in a bike accident at Kinrara, Puchong while heading towards Taman Sri Manja, Petaling Jaya.
Just days earlier, on March 28, Yogaraja had attended an emotional reunion with Nur Hamidah Nadjib, 24 and her mother Rasyidah Khoiruman, 43, the only two survivors of the Highland Towers tragedy of Dec 11, 1993.
Yogaraja, who was among the rescuers tasked to search for survivors, found Nur Hamidah, who was just 18 months old at the time, after scouring the rubble with his sniffer dog.
