Pune: Sleeping outside his house to beat the heat cost a 27-year-old man his life on Sunday.
Tanaji Nana Takale from Anjalinagar in Katraj was hacked to death by unidentified men in the wee hours of Sunday. The suspects also broke the lock of his house to steal valuables. “When we reached the spot, the broken lock of Tanaji’s house was lying near his body.
Everything inside the house was scattered,” police said.
The incident came to light after Tanaji’s brother Shivaji, who stays in the adjacent house, saw him lying in a pool of blood around 7am. “The deceased was staying alone as his wife had gone to Solapur for delivery,” assistant inspector Shekhar Shinde of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station said.
Shinde said Tanaji, who was working with a private company in Paud, would often sleep outside his house. Around 7am, Shivaji’s neighbour Irfan Mulge knocked at his door. “However, the door was latched from outside. He got someone to open the door after which Shivaji found his brother lying in a pool of blood,” Shinde said. Prima facie, police suspect the motive to be burglary.
