An afternoon collision on the QEII highway, south of Highway 72, has sent four people to hospital including a four-year-old boy who was airlifted to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

EMS public education officer Stuart Brideaux says emergency crews responded to the crash scene shortly before 2:30 p.m.

According to Brideaux, two southbound vehicles, an SUV and a car, collided on the highway.

The backseat passenger of the SUV, a four-year-old boy, was airlifted to the Alberta Children’s Hospital by STARS Air Ambulance in serious but stable condition. The driver of the SUV, a woman believed to be in her mid-30s, was transported by ground ambulance in stable, non-life threatening condition.

The two occupants of the car, a man and a woman both believed to be in their 20s, were transported to Calgary area hospitals. The man’s condition is considered serious but stable while the woman’s injuries are considered non-life threatening.

RCMP confirm an unidentified woman has been arrested in connection with impaired driving.
