TRS MP Kavitha: Cut bidi warning

Mr Dattatreya said he would relay her concerns to the Prime Minister and the health minister.

Hyderabad: TRS MP K. Kavitha on Sunday called on Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya to lobby for reduction in the size of pictorial warnings on bidi packets. New rules that came into effect on April 1 mandate that 85 per cent of the size of the pack should be covered by the pictorial warning cautioning smokers of the dangers of smoking.

Presenting a memorandum, Ms Kavitha told the minister that around eight lakh bidi workers will be affected if the Centre does not roll back its decision. Mr Dattatreya said he would relay her concerns to the Prime Minister and the health minister.

On other issues, Ms Kavitha said there was no substance in the allegations of TPCC leader Mallu Batti Vikramarka on the Powerpoint presentation made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

“People are laughing at Congress leaders. They fled from the debate. While all experts are praising the CM’s presentation, the Congress leaders are trying to save themselves,” she told reporters.
