One of the biggest attractions at the TVS stall at the 2016 Auto Expo, the TVS Akula 310 will hit the market by the end of 2016 and will take on the KTM RC 390.

The TVS Akula was showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo

Back at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, all of us were taken by surprise when we saw a fully faired sports bike from TVS, the Akula 310. Now the motorcycle was showcased only as a concept bike, with only a tentative launch frame initially, but we now can be certain that the much awaited motorcycle will hit our roads by the end of the year, as some sources close to TVS have confirmed. This is sure to raise some eyebrows in the neighbouring KTM camp since the Akula 310 will go up against the current segment leader, the RC 390.

The bike that was showcased at the Auto Expo was built entirely from carbon fibre, and while that obviously won’t be seen on the production version to keep costs low, it will be built using light-weight aluminium which isn’t too bad either. The other features that may or may not make it to the road include a front and rear camera, steering dampers and a 160 section rear tyre. This is because the bike showcased was entirely a race spec version.

The Akula 310 will benefit from the TVS-BMW partnership as the single-cylinder engine is sourced directly from the BMW G310R and will produce around 34 BHP of power and 28 Nm of torque. The bike is also sure to get dual-channel ABS as is seen on TVS’s Apache series. The bike is developed and will be manufactured at the TVS’ plant near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.

The TVS Akula 310 is one of those bikes that give one a feeling that it is capable of shaking up the market in its segment. Since TVS is known for its smart pricing, expect the Akula 310 to be priced somewhere around the Rs. 2 lakh figure. It’s not surprising why KTM has planned to launch the next generation version of the RC and Duke in 2017 as a step of caution.
