62 sovereigns of jewellery seized

About 62 sovereigns of gold jewellery had been seized from a car passenger by election officials at Ponnambalapatti toll gate near Vaiyampatti in the district on Saturday. According to sources, the gold jewellery was carried by a woman occupant of the car, who claimed that she was taking them to be handed over to a relative arriving from abroad. However, since she did not carry any valid documents, the jewellery was seized and deposited with the sub-treasury.

Election officials also seized about 1,500 T-shirts from a container lorry which was intercepted by them near Pazhur on the Tiruchi-Karur highway. The driver of the vehicle reportedly told the officials that the T-shirts were being taken to Tirupur. However, since he did not have valid documents to prove the claim, the T-shirts were seized.

Plea to TRAI

The Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations has appealed to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to ensure that all telecom service providers offered complaint redress services in local language too as per Section 3 of Telecom Consumer Complaint Redressal Regulation, 2012. In a representation to TRAI, M.Sekaran, president of the federation, said this was essential to meet the interests of illiterate consumers, those who are unable to address their grievance other than local language. The service providers should provide a toll-free complaint redress system, he said.

Form Cauvery board

The Tamizhaga Eri Matrrum Attru Passana Vivasayigal Sangam has urged the Centre to take steps to form the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority and prevent Karnataka from going ahead with its plans to build dams across the Cauvery at Mekedatu and Rasimanal. In a representation to the Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, P. Viswanathan, State President of the association, pointed out that the BJP had made an election promise to find a solution to the Cauvery dispute and take steps to implement the river-linking project.
