Following riots between two communities police have continued heavy bandobast in Vansada town of Navsari district on Saturday. Police lobbed two teargas shells to control the rioters who were pelting stones on each other on Friday night.

SURAT: Following riots between two communities, police have continued heavy bandobast in Vansada town of Navsari district on Saturday. Police lobbed two teargas shells to control the rioters who were pelting stones on each other on Friday night.
A tussle started during cricket led to insulting comment on each other and ultimately resulted into riots between two communities in Vansada.
Being a tribal hub Vansada is the last major centre of Navsari district after which limits of Dang district starts. It normally remains peaceful but following the sudden disturbance police are likely to maintain heavy bandobast for next couple of days.
Few individuals from both the groups have suffered minor injuries due to stone pelting. No major injury to any person was reported, police informed. The rioters ransacked a shop and set roadside carts on fire. Police took complaints of both sides and booked groups of over 100 people on each side. Out of those involved in the riots police have identified few and arrested six persons on Saturday. Those detained were brought to Vansada police station and their role is being investigated.
“Police have so far arrested six persons and investigation is on to identify others who were involved in the riots. Meanwhile heavy bandobast is being maintained,” said S P Vasava, police sub inspector, Vansada.
