Nashik: Vice-Chancellor of YCMOU Dr Manikrao Salunkhe and registrar Dr Prashant Atkare on Friday lodged an FIR with the Nashik Rural Police on Friday against political leaders who allegedly misbehaved with the VC in the university campus.
According to the FIR, politicians led by local MLA Seema Hiray and BJP leader Sunil Bagul were supporting an agitation of 17 employees of the university who were on strike demanding confirmation of jobs.
According to Atkare, the leaders allegedly abused the VC and tried to gherao him.
"The issue is an internal matter of the university. The employees were on strike from March 28 and the VC was in favour of fulfilling their demand of job confirmations, however, he is also fighting for the similar rights of the other 103 employees. But the political leaders entered the university premises and created a ruckus," said Dr Atkare. According to him, the leaders entered in the cabin of Vice-Chancellor Dr Salunkhe on Wednesday evening and started abusing him.
"Employees came to know about the incident on Thursday and came into support of the Vice-Chancellor. Together, they raised slogans against the political interference in the university," said Santosh Sable, spokesperson of the University. The employees signed a memorandum condemning the act of political leaders and submitted it to the District Collector on Friday.
On the other hand, BJP MLA Seema Hiray said that the university is indulging the elected representative in this matter to shift the focus from their internal breach. "The BJP workers stood in support of the 17 employees who were being denied their just rights by the University administration. When we tried to interact with the VC, he started an argument which enraged some of our workers. The allegations by the university authorities are baseless".
