Kokrajhar: The 60th birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was observed as students' day by the All Bodo Students' Union (Absu) at Thulungapuri near Dotma in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. A large gathering had congregated for the occasion.
Absu president Promod Boro asked the Bodos and students to embrace the Bodofa's ‘unity through struggle' vision for a better society.
He said the Bodofa was not just a leader of the Bodos. "He was one of the greatest visionaries of the Bodoland movement and an icon of the downtrodden," he said. He called upon everyone to dedicate themselves to good work for the society.
The Absu president said the party had undertaken two types of movements — one was political and the other was for social change.
Former Absu president and former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma said the ideology of Bodofa UN Brahma was based on humanism. He added that the student's organization had been demanding a half-day's holiday on the Bodofa's birth anniversary every year. "The proposal has been sent to the state government and BTC but none of them have taken any initiative in this regard," he said.
