Karnavati Club election: Power Panel set to win control
44.81% Of Members Cast Their Votes
Ahmedabad: A year after claiming complete a majority at Rajpath Club, the Members Power Panel (MPP) is all set to gain control of Karnavati Club as well. Voting for 23 seats of the 30-member board of Karnavati Club took place on Thursday. Some 3,583 members cast their votes amid high-pitch campaigning by MPP and Members Freedom Panel (MFP) outside the voting area.

Including the 809 votes cast through e-voting, a total of 4,392 votes were polled in the election. The total number of members eligible to vote in the club at present was 9,800 and 44.81% turnout was recorded.
At the time of going to press, most candidates of MPP were leading after three rounds counting. The final results will likely to be out early on Friday morning. According to sources, of the 809 e-votes, around 600 were secured by MPP. The start of the counting was delayed by an hour due to a technical glitch.

MPP already has seven seats on the 30-member board of the club, which it won in August last year. It needs other nine seats to gain power. MFP needs to win 16 seats to get past the majority mark. If the trends hold, MPP will likely secure a majority at the club. If it does, it will have control over two of the most prominent clubs in the city.
Earlier, members came in huge numbers and voted for their preferred candidates throughout the day. Voting was slow between 1 pm and 4 pm but picked up in the last two hours.
When elections were held for seven seats in August last year, there were around 11,000 members eligible for voting and 46% voting was recorded. After the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held on March 4 this year, corporate membership was abolished bringing down the number of eligible voters to 9,800.
