DHAIS slips to a half-year loss

DHAIS, the Cardiff-based company behind the Hearing Health and Mobility retail business, has reported a half-year pre-tax loss, with contrasting fortunes across its two key markets.

According to the company's interim results for the six months ending 31 December 2015, it made a pre-tax loss of £85,746, from a profit of £21,287 the year before.

Turnover dipped to £5.07m, down from £5.13m in the same period of 2014.

The company put the loss down to the reduced turnover and increased operational costs in its mobility business.

As a result, it is reviewing options for this division while focusing on expansion of its hearing aid operations which it said continued to offer "significant growth and profit potential".

As part of this strategy, the company sold its Swindon store in December 2015, retaining the use of the hearing aid test facilities within that and other nearby stores of the purchaser.

HHML operates hearing and mobility stores across the UK, with its central offices based in Cardiff.
