With the World T20 semifinal between New Zealand and England to be held here on Wednesday, Justice Mukul Mudgal has tightened the screws on the free lunches that people usually enjoy with these game. Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) office-bearers are running scared since lack of passes for 'proxy holders' is bound make them unhappy with the elections looming.

However, Tuesday saw a problem of a different kind. A known gangster-councilor from West Delhi who has been out on bail in a double murder case a couple of days back was seen being brought in by two DDCA office-bearers and entertained in another office-bearer's room for three hours.

Another person accompanying this tainted counselor was said to be a leading bookie of Delhi. There were whispers in people within DDCA about a similar incident during the 2011 ICC World Cup, when an alleged bookie was seen sitting in the Indian dressing room during the India-Netherlands match here.

Bookies and fixers have allegedly been known to have deep roots within DDCA. A sting operation a few years ago aired by a news channel showed the nexus between bookies and several DDCA office-bearers.

Delhi High Court-appointed Justice Mukul Mudgal has put a lid on nefarious activities of several DDCA office-bearers who are stated to be upset at being denied contracts and other favours that they have deemed as a matter of right all these years. But it seems even Justice Mudgal would not have anticipated a problem of this nature.

Reports from DDCA suggest that the other group of office-bearers were scared to see these two office-bearers who had invited the tainted counselor and bookie duo. After all, the purpose of bringing them to DDCA was two-fold: flaunt their muscle power and simultaneously garner information about ground and pitch conditions.

It is understood that the city's crime branch is in a tizzy with this development. One hopes the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has taken note of the development.
