Kerala State Co-operative Federation for Fisheries Development Limited (Matsyafed) has opened its second fish mart in the city.
The fully air-conditioned outlet has been opened on the eastern side of the University Stadium.
Timings
The mart will function from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all days except Sunday when it will close at 2 p.m., a release here said.
Deputy General Manager, Matsyafed, P.P Surendran, said the organisation would procure fresh fish on a daily basis from Neendakara in Kollam for supplying to customers in the city.
Base station
The Matsyafed has opened a base station at Neendakara for the purpose. The mart, set up at a cost of Rs.8 lakh, would offer a new buying experience for customers in a very clean and hygienic environment.
“We are expecting all types of buyers and so the mart will offer a wide variety of fishes. It will be dressed and sold to customers,” he said.
The Matsyafed will ensure the availability of at least five persons to cater to the buyers. The staff members have been selected from the coastal villages here.
The new outlet will be the 26{+t}{+h}in the State, he said.
