A 23-year-old college student was found dead on railway tracks between Badlapur and Ambernath railway stations on Friday night.

Shockingly, the police officials failed to trace her for two days as her two cellphones and ornaments were stolen, while, one cellphone was broken beyond damage.

The victim identified as Deeplakshmi Gaikwad, a resident of Wadavali in Ambernath East, went to meet her friend but was missing since Friday night. The family members registered a missing complaint at Shivaji nagar police station.

For two days, her kin tried to locate her but failed. On Sunday night, the police officials of Shivaji nagar police station informed the victim's family of her death. The victim's brother Dr Aniket Gaikwad is a MD working for Sion hospital.

"She had three cellphones with her from which, only one was found while the Railway police nor GRP tried to contact the family members and moved the body to mortuary at Ulhasnagar's central hospital," said a family member on condition of anonymity.

"Even the gold chain and ring was missing from her body, which clearly means that the theft took place after her death or we suspect foul play in the entire incident," added the member.

A senior officer from GRP said, "We have registered a case of accidental death in this regard and if family members have complaint against, we will look forward to it and enquire the matter," said the officer.
