Chennai: Residents of a village near Mamallapuram torched a car on Sunday after it claimed the life of a woman. Separately, two people were killed in accidents at Sevvapet and Melmaruvathur.
Police said G Govindammal, 35, of Neikuppi near Koovathur, was going with her husband Govindaraj, 38, and their two-year-old daughter on their bike when a car rammed their vehicle near Kadambadi village on ECR.

Govindammal died on the spot, while Govindaraj and their daughter escaped with minor injuries.
Seeing villagers running towards them, the occupants of the car fled. The villagers then set the car afire. Traffic on the stretch was blocked for about an hour after the accident.
In the second incident, Ragupathy of Pungathur near Sevvapet was returning home when a lorry hit his bike near Poonamallee. The 38-year-old, who runs a cultural dance troupe, was died instantly.
In the third fatal accident of the day, Ravikumar, a 45-year-old from Bengaluru, a conductor in a private bus service, was crossing the road near Melmaruvathur when a bus going from Puducherry to Chennai knocked him down.
