CMC to tackle water issues

March 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Mandya:

The Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) has started its budget preparatory process for 2016-17 by conducting a meeting, to seek suggestions and solutions for prevailing issues in the district, here on Saturday.

Former minister M.S. Atmananda and a host of people representing various sectors attended the meeting, chaired by CMC president Hosahalli Bore Gowda. Mr. Atmananda suggested that Mr. Bore Gowda set aside a good sum of the budget to take up drinking water works, as the town, which has 35 wards, has been facing shortage of drinking water.

The CMC was also told to initiate steps to establish electric crematoriums, effectively collect and dispose solid waste and to consider reduction of property tax and trade license fees.

While some suggested that the CMC increase its revenue by collecting property tax, others laid emphasis on cleaning drains and preventing water contamination. Former CMC member Ambujamma wanted the CMC to initiate measures against the stray dog menace.
