Buxar Congress worker to build temple as tribute to Rajiv Gandhi

Rai, a Bhumihar, said the political loyalty of his community had shifted towards the BJP, but many youths like him were “disenchanted” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rai said he had convinced his parents to set apart five kathas (6,805 sq ft) land in his village of Katharai in Buxar for the temple. He got pamphlets printed for the bhoomi pujan on March 22.

“Rai has been an enterprising worker and had been discussing the temple for a while. We are getting an architect to finalise the temple design,” Buxar district Congress president Tathagat Harshvardhan said.

Rai said: “The temple will not be constructed with party funds, but individual leaders will contribute.” Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president and Education Minister Ashok Kumar Choudhary said: “If a worker is emotionally attached to a leader, he finds ways to express gratitude to him. Rajivji has surely inspired youths. The party is not involved with the project and there is little the party can do to dissuade an emotional worker.”
