2nd exit point at Danapur stn within 6 months: DRM

Patna: The Railway Board has given its go-ahead to an action plan for the development of Danapur station, one of the oldest stations of the country. A sum of Rs 3 crore has been allocated for building a second exit point at the station.
According to Danapur DRM R K Jha, a blueprint for the facelift of Danapur station has been prepared by a team of experts.
Under the new plan, the second exit point at the station would be built at the southern end of the town on the pattern of Delhi's Ajmeri Gate.
"The old railway buildings would be demolished so that the second exit point could be developed on a sprawling 600 to 700 square metre area," Jha said, adding the project would be completed in four to six months' time.
The railways intends to build a spacious circulating area, parking lot, a reservation office and a waiting hall, among other things, at the southern end of the station. "A large population lives in Phulwari area while an AIIMS has come up near WALMI complex in the vicinity. There's also an Army cantonment in Danapur. As such, a large number of passengers use the Danapur station instead of Patna Junction," Jha pointed out while explaining the decision to develop the Danapur station.

There are five platforms at Danapur station, through which 130-odd pairs of passenger trains cross daily. Besides, at least six long-distance passenger trains originate from this station. "We are, therefore, committed to developing Danapur station as the third terminal after Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal," the DRM said, adding newly built Pataliputra station is the fourth terminal of the Danapur rail division.
The authorities have also approved a plan to build a tide-way and two normal platforms at the station. A new passenger reservation building has already been made functional at the station.
Also, a new route relay interlocking system is being developed at Danapur, which will become functional in September 2016. "This facility will help in smooth traffic operations at Danapur," the DRM said.
