3 constables suspended for torture

Lucknow: A video clip showing five policemen torturing an alleged mobile thief inside a police station in Hardoi district has gone viral on social media. After the video clip was aired by some local news channels, three police constables involved in the incident were suspended while action was recommended against three home guards who were seen assisting the policemen in the ruthless act.
Reports said two persons were apprehended by Kotwali police on Thursday. One of them confessed that they had stolen a cellphone from a shop. Later, when the two were inside the lock-up, one of the accused, Neeraj, thrashed his aide for confessing to the crime before the police. Thereafter, the police personnel dragged Neeraj out of the lock-up, pulled him up against a pillar and mercilessly thrashed him with a belt. The incident was recorded by a civilian present at the police station who later uploaded it on social media.
"A head constable and two constables were suspended and a report sent to the Home Guards department for action against two of their jawans who were also present at the police station," said SP Hardoi Umesh Kumar Singh.
