Alec Baldwin was almost Carrie's Mr. Big on 'Sex and the City'

We almost had Alec Baldwin rescuing Carrie from Paris.

Carrie and Mr. Big on Sex and the City -- it's one of TV's most iconic romances, thanks to performances by Sarah-Jessica Parker and Chris Noth.

But in a new interview with EW, creator Darren Star reveals that Noth wasn't his first choice to play the bad boyfriend that we adored anyway.

“I was thinking of Alec Baldwin for Big initially," he said. But eventually, Noth won him over. "I don’t really watch Law & Order, but I met with Chris Noth and thought he was perfect. I remember the first table read, how good he was. I’m not saying that Chris was Mr. Big, but he brought a lot of his own persona to the role…"

So what was Baldwin doing in 1998, the year SATC began? Playing Macbeth at New York's Public Theater alongside Angela Bassett and Liev Schreiber, starring in the code-breaking thriller Mercury Rising with Bruce Willis and, best of all, narrating Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.

Baldwin in 1996. Not bad, right?

It makes sense that Star considered him for the role, considering Baldwin and Noth have similar tall, dark and handsome aesthetics.

But as hard as we try, we can't see anyone but Noth playing the role -- and we definitely can't see Carrie ending up with Jack Donaghy.
