IJU vehemently criticises Ramulu for casting aspersion on scribes

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI): The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) today took strong exception to the reported statement of the Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police J V Ramulu that the police would continue to summon the journalists to the police stations and question them on the source of their news if they write anything against persons in high positions.
It was unfortunate that the DGP came out with such a ‘defiant’ statement after the Press Council of India (PCI) found fault with the police for summoning six journalists of the Telugu daily Newspaper to Mangalagiri Police Station in Guntur district on Monday last and questioned them on the source of the news stories published in their newspaper on land dealings in Amaravathi capital region in Andhra Pradesh, said Amar Devulapalli, Secretary Geeral, IJI and K Amarnath, member, Press Counicl of India (PCI) in a joint statement here today.
The PCI took ‘suo motu’ cognizance of the matter on Wednesday and issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Superintendent of Police, Guntur district to immediately send a report to the Press Council on the facts of the case, they said.
