Explore the 'other side' of the film industry
Gaurish Akki is a popular name in Kannada television, considering that he has spent years interviewing film stars and dissecting their work on his shows. So, when he set out to make a movie, and one about the film industry, it evoked intrigue. That, says the debutant director, is one of the biggest USPs of his release today, Cinema My Darling, produced under his banner Gaurish Akki Cine'Mass, in association with Mahantesh Yadwad, Srinivas P and Muniraju V.
'For the layman, movies are all about glitz and glamour. But there's more to it than just that. People working in the industry will be all too familiar with the frustrations they feel when things don't work out, injustices meted out to them, relationships that are forged and broken, and so much more. Cinema My Darling explores all this and more through its four male protagonists ' Vihan Gowda, Manojava Galgali, Shashi Deshpande and Shreyas Narasimha,' says Gaurish.
While the story itself is a work of fiction, the debutant director does not deny that his years of interactions with people in the industry have served as inspiration for the characters in the film. 'All my characters have been inspired by real people ' be it Vihan the aspiring hero, Manojava who wants to turn director, Shashi who wants to compose music for films, or Shreyas who wans to become a cameraman. Even Sanjjanaa's character has several real-life inspirations. She plays a diva, who is one of the most sought-after item girls in the industry,' explains the filmmaker.
The music of the film, composed by Ajaneesh Loknath, is another highlight, especially the song Maayadantha Maya Lokano, a situational number that has the protagonists putting together the script for a commercial flick that has to be presented to a producer.
