Durgapur CPM nominee out of election race
ASANSOL: The Election Comission has cancelled the nomination of CPM candidate of Durgapur-West Bhajan Chakraborty (Biprendu) apparently on technical grounds that he had submitted his papers 10 minutes after the deadline and overwritten in some of the slots.
Durgapur SDPO had sent the nomination papers to Kolkata, where they was cancelled. The contest from the seat will now be between Trinamool MLA and Durgapur Municipal Corporation mayor Apurba Mukherjee and Congress's Biswanath Pariwal, four-time councillor and Mukherjee's former protege.

Chakraborty said his party will now campaign for Pariwal, a young leader who joined Congress recently. With the elimination of the CPM candidate, the seat will witness a tough contest. The BJP had logged the second-highest number of votes here in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
