Assault on cop: CCB nabs prime accused

March 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:51 am IST - Bengaluru:

Nearly two years after a constable was allegedly assaulted in a lounge bar on Vittal Mallya Road, the Central Crime Branch arrested the prime accused Somegowda.

The arrest was made on Tuesday after Somegowda failed to appear before the police for questioning, sources said.

The incident occurred in July 2014 when Somegowda had organised a party to celebrate the birthday of Hungund MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar at the bar. The police received complaints about the party stretching beyond the legally stipulated deadline.

When a beat constable went to videograph the party as part of standard procedure, Somegowda and a few others allegedly snatched the camera and assaulted him.

The police said that after the incident, Somegowda was absconding for a while and had even attempted to get anticipatory bail from the High Court of Karnataka.
