Nearly two years after he assaulted a police constable at a lounge bar on Vittal Mallya Road, the Central Crime Branch officials arrested the prime accused Somegowda.
The arrest was made on Tuesday after Somegowda failed to appear before the police for questioning, sources said.
The incident occurred in July 2014, when Somegowda had organised a party to celebrate the birthday of Hungund MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar at the lounge bar. When the party stretched into the early hours, the police received complaints about the same from the staff of the lounge bar. A beat constable went to videograph the party as part of standard procedure, when Somegowda and a few others allegedly snatched their camera and assaulted him.
The police said that after the incident, Somegowda was absconding for a while and had even attempted to get anticipatory bail from the High Court of Karnataka.
