I offered him Rs 10 lakh to leave Kausalya: Father to cops

Dalit engineering student, Shankar, was hacked to death in a crowded bus stand on March 13 for having married an upper caste Thevar girl

Udumalpet: In yet another sensational disclosure in the honour killing of Dalit youth Shankar, his father-in-law Chinnasamy has reportedly confessed to the police that he had offered Rs 10 lakh to Shankar for sending his daughter, Kausalya, back home.

“We killed Shankar for refusing to leave my daughter Kausalya even after I told him that I would give him Rs 10 lakh,” Kausalya’s father Chinnasamy who is in police custody told cops during the custodial interrogation. The police who have launched a hunt for Chinnasamy’s wife and a few other relatives, have obtained clues about their hideout.

A special police team has headed for Theni to nab Chinnasamy’s wife Annalakshmi and brother-in-law Pandithurai for having conspired to killing Shankar. The Dalit engineering student, Shankar, was hacked to death in a crowded bus stand on March 13 for having married an upper caste Thevar girl, Kausalya.

A day after the shocking killing circulated widely on the WhatsApp, Kausalya’s father Chinnasamy surrendered in the court at Nilakkottai in Dindigul district.
The special police team which conducted custodial interrogation of Chinnasamy revealed on Tuesday that Kausalya’s father had confessed to having hired the killer gang to eliminate his son-in-law.

Kausalya also received stab injuries during the attack because Chinnasamy had not given clear instruction to the killer gang about killing her. He had also reportedly revealed that he had ordered the killing of Shankar to redeem his honour which had been besmirched by his daughter who had married a Dalit youth.

The police have nabbed five members of the killer gang who committed the murder. The Udumalpet court has granted the police permission to take Chnnasamy under custody for a week. After interrogation, Chinnasamy will be produced before the court on March 28.
