Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) councillor D. Mahadesh and seven associates, who were recently convicted for double murder, have been shifted from Mysuru central jail to Hindalga central jail in Belagavi.

Superintendent of Mysuru central jail Divyashree told The Hindu that Mahadesh and his associates were transported to Belagavi early on Tuesday with City Armed Reserve (CAR) police security. She said shifting was carried out under instructions from the head office.

Mahadesh, a JD(S) councillor, representing ward number 32 in the MCC, and seven others, including his brother Manjunath, were convicted for the murder Rajesh and Ramu at a farm in Hunsur in 2008 after a dispute over real estate transactions.

The accused had been lodged in the Mysuru central jail since the Second Additional District and Sessions judge Shivakumar Anand sentenced them to life imprisonment last month.
