The Dying River campaign, put together by a group of students from Vasant Valley School, brought together youngsters and adults who joined hands to clean up the Yamuna. The programme was organised earlier this week.

The Dying River campaign was started by the students after attending the Yamuna yatra, facilitated by Swechha India. Yamuna Yatra, a 12-day journey from Yamunotri to Vrindavan, exposed the participants to the harsh and bitter reality of the condition of the river.

“This Yamuna clean-up is inspired by the regular shramdaans conducted by Swechha India. In the light of recent events and the constantly deteriorating state of the Yamuna and her floodplains in Delhi, it is extremely essential to get the citizens together to act,’’ said a release issued by the group.

Apart from the Shramdaan, which is expected to become a regular feature, the young campaigners have also filed RTIs earlier to get their queries addressed about the state of the river.
