A 10 year old class 5 student of Bhawani Dayal Prmary School died after she was bumped by a car at 9 ½ miles along Kings Road, Nakasi yesterday afternoon.

Police said a post mortem will be conducted today to determine the cause of death.

They are also advising drivers to be more vigilant and to take more care when driving near school vicinities especially during after school hours in the afternoon and before the school starts in the morning.

“This fatal accident happened after school hours yesterday afternoon hence, we again wish to reiterate to drivers to be more careful when driving near school vicinities. Drivers are also advised to be careful when driving past buses discharging students at the bus stop after school hours and before school in the morning.

“Some students may run across the road soon after getting off the bus. Parents and guardians are advised to warn their children on road safety measures and to avoid playing on the road on their way home from school,” a Police statement said.

The road fatality rate  stands at 9 compared to 13 for the same period last year.
