After a short-lived deal with Uruguay football player Luis Suárez, online card room 888poker decided to add another sports star as its latest ambassador. Former Brazil and Arsenal winger Denilson is joining the roster of current ambassadors for the popular online poker site, with Dominik Nitsche, Bruno ‘Foster’ Politano, and Jackie Glazier being few of those.
Denilson’s name became prominent in the world of football in 1998 when he agreed on a £21.5-million transfer to Real Betis, thus setting the record for the most expensive ever transfer. It is also important to note that the player was part of Brazil’s team when it won the FIFA World Cup in 2002. Over the span of his career, he also captured a number of other titles, including the Brazilian League, Copa del Rey, and Copa America.
Denilson joins fellow Brazilians Bruno Politano, Bruno Kawauit, and Nicolau Villa-Lobos, who are also known to be 888poker ambassadors. They will mentor the former football star on what is to be a member of the card room’s team of ambassadors.
Commenting on him joining the roster of 888poker sponsored players and popular personalities, Denilson said that he has become more interested in the game as all his friends started playing poker. He further noted that some of the qualities one needs to become a successful football player can help them for improving their poker game.
Denilson said that he is happy to be joining one of the world’s biggest online poker platforms and that he hopes he will improve his own skills and will encourage more people to start playing “this exciting game.”
888 Holdings Senior Vice President and Head of B2C Itai Pazner said in a statement that Denilson was among those players to play football with “skill, enthusiasm, and energy,” thus bringing happiness to millions of fans. Mr. Pazner pointed out that they are happy to have a football star among their 888poker team as they want their players to approach the game in a similar way.
According to the official, poker is a game of skill and it takes time and intelligence to master it. Yet, he pointed out that it is important to them that their players have fun while playing the game at the online tables of 888poker.
As mentioned above, the online poker room previously signed Luis Suárez. The deal, however, did not last long as 888poker decided to end it after the player’s biting incident during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
