Rawalpindi - Race Course police have registered a criminal case against an unknown man for allegedly demanding extortion money from a doctor in the name of a banned terrorist outfit, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation yesterday. According to sources, Dr Ameer stated before police that an unknown man called him on his cell phone and demanded Rs 1 million as extortion. He mentioned that the unknown caller, who introduced himself as an active member of a banned terrorist outfit of Pakistan, also hurled threats of dire consequences in case of non-payment of extortion.
DSP Syed Iqbal Kazmi, when contacted, confirmed the development. He said that police are facing difficulties in obtaining the data of the cell number of caller as it is hard to find data of SIMs being used in Afghanistan. “However, I am not disappointed as I will get the data of other numbers who are in contact with the extortionist sitting in Afghanistan,” claimed the DSP. He said that earlier two of such cases were detected in cantonment area. He said police are trying to arrest the extortionists, he said. Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja has directed District Police Officer (DPO) Chakwal to ensure arrest of all the A-category proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crimes. Presiding over the meeting regarding non-arrest of proclaimed offenders and other criminals, the RPO expressed deep concern and asked DPO Munir Ahmed Marth to nab all the wanted men or else departmental action would be taken against him and his subordinates.
