The victim, Komaramma, 35, a GHMC sweeper from Vadderabasti in Amberpet.
While Komaramma was cleaning the road opposite Ushodaya Supermarket in Ramanthapur, an RTC bus of Falaknuma depot (AP 29 Z 3291) coming to the city from Uppal hit her. "The victim fell on the road when the bumper of the bus hit her. Her body was crushed under the rear tyre of the bus and she died on the spot," Amberpet inspector K Rammohan Reddy said. Employees going to offices and students attending public exams faced tense moments due to the traffic jam and police had to divert traffic via Patel Nagar for an hour.
The protesters finally called off the rasta roko and allowed the body to be shifted for post-mortem after GHMC zonal commissioner Gourav Uppal arrived at the spot and announced that the government would help the victim's family in all possible ways. The state government has announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia for the family members of the victim and GHMC officials also promised to give her husband employment, the inspector said. The victim is survived by her husband and three children.
