KPRS to take out rally today

March 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Riachur:

The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) has decided to take out a march condemning “meagre allocation” made for irrigation projects along the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal (TLBC) in the recent state budget. The march will begin from Javalagera in Raichur on Tuesday and end at Munirbad in Koppal, where the Tungabhadra reservoir is located, on the same day.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, KPRS leader D. Veerana Gowda said that hundreds of farmers from the irrigation belt of Raichur along TLBC are expected to participate in the march.

“We are deeply disappointed with the budget. Only a meagre amount has been allocated for irrigation projects along TLBC,” he said.

According to Mr. Gowda, constructing a service road along the left bank of TLBC main canal and its distributaries at a cost of Rs. 75 crore and addressing the issue of silt accumulation in Tungabhadra reservoir were among a few pending issues that needed urgent attention.

“We will discuss the future course of action on April 10,” he said.
