Fazilka, March 20
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sujit Kumar Jyani inaugurated a 50-bed rehabilitation centre in Fazilka. A sum of Rs 4 crore has been spent on the project. Jyani said 22 rehabilitation centres had been set up in the state with a target to make the state free of drugs.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs from the state which was “being defamed by the Opposition”. He claimed that after a survey was conducted in 10 districts of the state, contrary to the claims of opposition parties, only 1.8 per cent of the youth had been found to be drug addicts in these districts.
He appealed to people to admit drug addicts in de-addiction centres for their treatment. After getting them treated, they will be referred to rehabilitation centres to uplift their mental and social status.
Jyani also inaugurated the newly set-up dialysis unit and an ultra-modern dental clinic at the local Civil Hospital on the occasion of the World Oral Health Day on Saturday. He also threw open a laundry unit at the Civil Hospital set up at the cost of Rs 9.10 lakh. Civil Surgeon, Fazilka, Dr Jagpal Singh Bassi also accompanied Jyani.
