Two killed as van crashes into parked truck

Two men were killed when a mini van going from Kancheepuram to Acharapakkam rammed into a parked lorry near Melmaruvathur in Kancheepuram district on Saturday morning.

Chennai: Two men were killed when a mini van going from Kancheepuram to Acharapakkam rammed into a parked lorry near Melmaruvathur in Kancheepuram district on Saturday morning.
Police said the van driver Parthiban, 28, a resident of Perambur lost control of the vehicle and hit the lorry, killing him on the spot.
Esakimuthu, 30, a native of Tanjavur who was seated along with Parthiban died on the way to the Chengelpet government hospital.

Another person Balaji, 28, who was also present in the van was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi government hospital for post mortem.
Police said Parthiban was over speeding and lost control of the vehicle and the force of the impact was such that the mini van was mangled beyond recognition. Police had a tough time extricating the body of Parthiban and had to cut open the van.
Police said the van was carrying goods to a godown in Acharapakkam when the incident occured.
Traffic on the arterial road was affected for over an hour due to the rescue operation, where villagers came to the rescue of the police. Devotees to the Melmaruvathur from the city and the suburbs were stranded on the road due to the accident.
