Surat: Two women suffered injuries when a bus they were travelling in with 52 other passengers slipped into a dry riverbed and overturned in Valsad on Dharampur road on Saturday. Mamta Shah of Vadodara and Kamla Manjwani of Gandhinagar were shifted to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.
"Two persons suffered injuries in the accident. One of them has been discharged from the hospital.
The bus driver has been booked for rash driving," police said. The bus GJ-01-DD-6464 of Ahmedabad-based Gujarat Transport was returning from Nashik to Ahmedabad when it slipped into Vanki river at around 1.15am. The bus did not fall directly into the river but had slipped into the riverbed at the start of the bridge, investigation revealed.
Cops booked driver Shreeram Sonar for rash driving. He told police he lost control over the steering whee. Hence, he couldn't stop the bus from slipping into riverbed. Mamta Shah and Kamla Manjwani didn't suffer major injuries, police said, adding other passengers escaped with bruises.
