Margao: Fatorda independent MLA Vijai Sardesai on Saturday admitted to having suffered a 'setback' as he expressed disappointment over the lack of coordinated efforts by the 'like-minded MLAs' in the opposition to corner the government on various issues concerning Goans in the state.
A dejected Sardesai, who had a joint pre-assembly session media briefing alongside non -BJP legislators on putting the government on the mat in the assembly, divulged to the media that it appeared as if a 'setting' had taken place.
Stating that 'the Congress maybe happy with this session', Sardesai alleged legislators didn't raise issues of concern to Goans such as the 38 crore Lusofonia Games held in Goa. "I had read in the media that the Congress, the principal opposition party in the state, had announced that it would move to declare the coconut tree as the state tree but what happened? " he said.
Remarking that he is prepared to sit in the opposition', the Fatorda MLA clarified that he would now sit and review his strategy along with those within and outside the House.
Lashing out at the BJP for having betrayed the Goans on their assurances of providing jobs to unemployed Goan youth, Sardesai censured chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar for his remarks that private firms cannot be bound to provide jobs to local Goans when Sardessai sought to introduce a private members legislation that would provide 100% job reservation to local Goans in the government sector and 80% job reservation to Goans in private sector.
Pointing out to deputy speaker Vishnu Surya Wagh's request to rise above personal bias and provide jobs to locals, the Fatorda MLA vowed to make this as the main issue at the forthcoming assembly polls. Also present was Prabhakar Timble of Goa Forward party.
