Bastakoti, Ghale win Ballantine’s Open Golf Championship

Kathmandu, March 19

Bharat Bastakoti and Tashi Ghale won the titles of the Ballantine’s Open Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Saturday.

Bastakoti accumulated 300 points to win the nett category title, while Muktisen Gurung came second with 220 points. Ghale claimed the gross section trophy with the total score of 520 points. Bastakoti and Ghale received trophies and two-way tickets to Bangkok from Thai Airways.

In the final tournament of the three-match series that was played under stableford ¾ handicap format, Bastakoti finished first in nett section with 41 points, while Himandri SJB Rana came second with 37. Ghale won the gross category trophy with 29 points. Maj Gen Mahesh Bahadur Karki won the senior section trophy with 29 points.

Likewise, Sandhya Rai claimed the women’s section title with 36 points, while Arsiya Banu came second with 32 points. Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi won the most birdies award with three birdies, while Lt Col Basanta Raj Gurung bagged the longest drive award and Pradeep Bikram Rana took the closest-to-the-pin trophy. Also, Sonam Ghale and Kausi Maya Rai won the best front and back nine award with 18 and 20 points respectively. The winners received trophies and gift hampers from Ballantine’s, the main sponsors of the tournament.

RNGC president Rabindra Man Shrestha, vice-president Tashi Ghale, past president Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha, Country Manager of Pernod Recard India Pvt Ltd Ravinder Saini and General Manager of Thai Airways Peerapong Jutaganoon handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
