'Gujarat sold power to non-BJP states'
Ahmedabad: Three states whose governments are highly critical of Prime Minister Narnedra Modi are 'powered' by Gujarat. The governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have purchased power from Gujarat at Rs 3 per unit.
In reply to a question by Siddhpur MLA Balwantsinh Rajput, the state government said that, in the year 2014, Gujarat had sold 2531.79 million units to six states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, along with power exchange.

The government further said that Gujarat, which is a power-surplus state, had been selling electricity to other states. In 2014 alone, Gujarat had sold power worth Rs 741.16 crore to other states. In 2015, however, it sold 305 million units at Rs 2.46 per unit along with power exchange.
Replying to another question of Sherkotda MLA Shailesh Parmar, the state government said that the overall power production in Gujarat was 80,554 million units, out of which 53% was the government's share while 40.45% was the share of private companies. The remaining was from other sources including solar power. Similarly, in 2015, the state's total production was 80,374 million units.
The government further said that in 2014 a total of 21,237 million units were supplied for agriculture. This increased to 22,952 million units in 2015.
Industries received 26,642 million units in 2014 and 28,619 million units in 2015, respectively.
