There is a reason why couples tend to avoid working together!

This week's Bollywood biggie is Kapoor & Sons. The film reunites Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra, who made their debut together in Karan Johar's Student of the Year along with Varun Dhawan. Kapoor & Sons is also produced by Karan Johar, though this time it is directed by Shakun Batra, who impressed us with his work in Kareena Kapoor Khan's Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Now there have been rumours that Alia Bhatt and Sidharth are going strong as a couple, and even the actors themselves had neither denied nor accepted these. They even played around with the questions being asked about their relationships, letting out some very strong cryptic clues. So why don't they acknowledge their affair once and for all? Unlike Hollywood, here it's very rare that couples come out and paint the town red publicly! One reason is that they are themselves not sure how long the relationship will last. In recent times only we have so many break ups like Ranbir - Katrina, Virat - Anushka etc. Secondly, though public adores a couple in love, the same adoration doesn't transcend into box office collections. This is actually strange because being a real-life couple, they don't need to fake their chemistry on screen! Only rarely have couples really clicked at BO, the biggest example being Ranveer Singh - Deepika Padukone!

Here are 7 other couples whose off screen romance didn't set the BO on fire!

Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor (now Khan)

Victims: Fida, 36 China Town (average), Chup Chup Ke, Milenge Milenge (delayed)

Sure, everyone remembers Shahid - Kareena for that lovely film called Jab We Met, but point to remember is that by the time the film was made, their relationship was already kaput! When they were truly into each other, none of their easy camaraderie translated into box office successes. 36 China Town was the only film that managed to make some kind of mark, but Shahid - Kareena jodi can't take the entire credit. By the time the audiences started appreciating their pair on screen, sadly they had gone their separate ways!

Saif Ali Khan - Kareena Kapoor Khan

Victims: Tashan, Kurbaan, Agent Vinod

Even before they were a pair, Kareena had played Saif's fiancee in LOC - Kargil. While shooting for Tashan, Kareena and and Saif had begun to see each other (though she ended up with Akshay Kumar in the film). The pair eventually got married. But none of the films they did together manage to curiosity among the audiences. Even with a bold lovemaking scene, Kurbaan flopped big time while Agent Vinod was the one film even a brilliant director like Sriram Raghavan couldn't save!

Abhishek Bachchan - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Victims: Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Naa Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Raavan

Even though they looked an adorable pair onscreen, the real-life couple and the parents to a lovely daughter Aaradhya couldn't manage to woo the audiences thanks to some lackadaisical scripts! It's not that filmography of Abhi-Ash was full of misses - they had a great film in Mani Ratnam's Guru, where both the actors gave the performances of their lifetime! But even Mani Ratnam couldn't salvage their next collaboration, Raavan, resulting in one of the biggest disasters in all their careers!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - Viveik Oberoi

Victim: Kyun... Ho Gaya Na

Before Aishwarya Rai settled with AB's baby, she was in a relationship with Salman Khan and then with Viveik Oberoi. The second relationship actually created more heat off screen (remember that darned press conference where Viveik accused Salman of giving him 41 threatening missed calls?) than on screen! As for the only film that they did together, well...all we can say to Viveik is Kyun Ho Gaya Na....career barbad!

Salman Khan - Katrina Kaif

Victim: Yuvvraaj

Sure Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (Katrina's relaunch) and Partner were huge hits and these films happened when they were supposedly dating each other. But Salman and Katrina didn't end with each other in both the films. The only film that they were romantically paired while they were dating was Yuvvraaj, and the film was a disaster. After their break-up, they did one more film, which turned out to be Ek Tha Tiger! Guess, audiences love couples only after they break up!

John Abraham - Bipasha Basu

Victims: Aetbaar, Madhoshi, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

When they used to date each other, no one could deny that John and Bipasha had some real sizzling chemistry going on! This was also evident in their films as well, especially their first film together, Jism (which was also John's debut film). However the rest of the film couldn't capitalise much on this when it came to box office returns! Now that they are not dating any more (John has married Priya Runchal while Bipasha is dating Karan Singh Grover), we can never see that chemistry any more! An opportunity missed, Bollywood!

Priyanka Chopra - Harman Baweja

Victims: Love Story 2050, What's Your Raashee?

Poor Harman Baweja! He had a father who was willing to spend millions to give his son a posh debut, a girlfriend (then) who was already an established star, and looks that were enough when it comes to Bollywood. Unfortunately, those looks were too similar to another existing superstar and the film also turned into one big dud! After that dismal failure, even Ashutosh Gowariker tried to save his career by casting the pair again in What's Your Raashee? But even with 12 Priyanka Chopra's in the film, they were not enough to save Harman's acting career!
