Anti-superstition film cleared by Censor Board

After initial refusal, revising committee cleared it. Board now gets flak over mutes
Anti-superstition film cleared by Censor Board
A revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issued a certificate to the Kannada film '3 Bittavaru Oorige Doddavaru' on March 16. This comes after the Bengaluru office of CBFC had rejected giving it a certificate earlier this year saying, 'The theme of the film is very sensitive towards religion and communities. The indirect message given by it may be misunderstood and can cause social discord.' The writer and director of he film, Basavaraj Koppal, says he film is based on the Vachanas of the Veerashaiva sharanas and its theme is against blind beliefs and superstition and the need for cultivating scientific temper.
The revising committee has given a UA certificate to the film.
The committee consists of nine members and it includes veteran film makers like TS Nagabharana and Vijayalakshmi Singh. Basavaraj Koppal said, 'After the certificate was rejected earlier, it was Mirror's report about it that gave me support. The revising committee actually appreciated the film. They suggested a few small corrections and it does not affect the film.'
The CBFC in Bengaluru has received brickbats from film makers and audiences over the dozens of 'mutes' that it imposed on the recent film Kiragoorinal Gayyaligalu. The film is based on Poornachandra Tejaswi's story of the same name. The village slang with a liberal dose of swear words in the film made the CBFC see red and it muted several words.
MANY CAMPAIGNS
There have been many campaigns against CBFC online by supporters of the film and fans of the late Tejaswi. Now film makers like B Suresha have come forward to petition the CBFC. The film's director Suman Kittur is taking legal course. 'A particular phrase was allowed in the film's trailer. But the same was muted in the film. I have decided to take CBFC to court over this issue,' she said.
