Metta World Peace recalls the time he rapped with Kobe Bryant in a hotel room

In an LA Weekly story by Jeff Weiss, Metta World Peace revealed an interesting anecdote about the time him and Kobe Bryant rapped together in a hotel room.

He (Metta) hopes to tour after the Lakers’ season finishes in April, marking the last games of Kobe Bryant’s career. It’s unlikely that the championship duo will ever collaborate, but Metta remembers when the Mamba visited his hotel room to spit lyrics that he’d just jotted down — which became a never-recorded cypher session.

“He liked one of my songs, so he came to my room and we flowed,” Metta says smiling. “He’s so much better than me … so good with words. He ought to write a movie.”

1. Imagine Kobe and Metta sitting in a hotel room together writing and rapping. Just imagine that.

2. What was the topic of their unrecorded rap/writing session?

3. Did Metta mean that Kobe’s a better rapper or that Kobe came up with better lyrics?

4. Metta doesn’t say Kobe should start rapping again. He says he should write a movie, so he probably means Kobe’s a good writer, not a good rapper, which makes sense. Kobe has a way with words.

No matter what happened back then, Kobe has made it clear he won’t return to rap music. A reporter asked him about it last month, and the answer was, “Nope.”
