Lucknow: The half-naked body of a 10-year-old girl was found near Chhannilal crossing around 2pm on Thursday. The body was found stuffed inside a plastic sack lying near an ice-cream parlour in the posh locality.
According to police, a complaint that a 10-year-old girl is missing had been lodged in Aliganj on Wednesday night around 11.30pm.
"The half-naked body of a girl was found inside a plastic gunny bag.
She was only wearing a vest. It seems she was asphyxiated or strangulated by putting something on the mouth. The face has injury marks too," said Kamlapati Yadav, SO Aliganj.
The brother of the deceased identified the body of the girl and broke down. He said his sister had asked for Rs 3 to buy a toffee around 10pm on Wednesday night and left their Aliganj home.
"When she did not return, we filed a missing complaint with the police," he said.
"The body bore injury marks on the head and neck. The exact cause of death will only be ascertained after autopsy," said Jai Prakash, ASP, trans-Gomti.
"The girl featured in CCTV footage at Purania crossing near her house at 10.22pm but after that she is not seen. We took sniffer dogs near the ice-cream parlour. They kept barking again and again around ice-cream trolleys," said SSP Rajesh Pandey.
The girl's father was inconsolable as he fell to the ground while talking to media persons.
Employed in a government department as a class IV employee, he could hardly make ends meet but wanted his daughter to study and rise to fame.
His wife and 12-year-old son, too, could not stop sobbing. The family stays in the servant quarters of a government building. They hail from Sidhauli village.
