KARACHI (Web Desk) – A terrorist identified as Kamran Gujjar, who recently pledged allegiance to Daesh, has been killed in a joint operation by CIA and West Police in Manghopir area, Karachi Police Chief Mushtaq Mehar claimed on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Central Police Office, Mehar said that Kamran Gujjar was involved in more than 40 murder cases including attacks on police and Rangers. He was also involved in killing of DSP Fateh Muhammad Sangri, his guard and driver in Gulshan Hadeed area last year.

The accused facilitated terrorists in 2014 to target Rangers’ Sector Commander Brigadier Basit in a suicide attack. He was involved in bank robbery incidents in Hyderabad, Karachi and other cities as well.

According to Mushtaq Mehar, Kamran Gujjar had recently pledged allegiance to Daesh, also known as Islamic State (IS).

Different officials in the government have taken seemingly contradictory stands on Daesh’s influence in Pakistan, after a rare warning by an intelligence chief that the Middle East-based militant group posed a domestic threat.

Reports of stepped-up recruitment by Daesh and a bloody attack linked to the group last year have stoked fears the movement is gaining momentum in Pakistan, despite the government rejecting its formal presence.

To a question, the Karachi police chief said that two groups are involved in cracker attacks. One group carries out attacks for political gains while another group launches attacks in response to Karachi operation to spread panic and fear.

Karachi is the capital of southern Sindh province, which has witnessed multiple militant attacks in recent years but situation has significantly improved after Rangers and police launched a targeted action against criminals and terror elements in the metropolis.
