A tenth standard student from Shahinayatgunj of the city, who was kidnapped for ransom, found murdered near Alpha Hotel in Secunderabad.

The boy’s body - hands tied with a rope- was stuffed in a Sony TV package box and abandoned along roadside. Police are suspecting that the business rivals of the boy’s father Raj Kumar, who has scrap recycling company in Katedan of Rajendranagar, could be behind the killing.

Abhay (15) left his house in Sree colony of Shahinayatgunj around 5 p.m. on Wednesday to get idlis for the family members. He rode a two-wheeler, collected idlis and reached close to his house.

“But he didn’t come to the house. Video footage of surveillance cameras showed that he entered a lane close to his house,” Goshamahal ACP K. Rambhoopal Rao told The Hindu on Thursday. The video clips showed a stranger, who appeared to be familiar to the boy, following the boy from behind.

Later, the stranger rode the two-wheeler while Abhay sat on the pillion. As the boy didn’t return home, his parents searched in the locality and approached the police around 8 p.m. Even as the police started inquiring about the boy, the boy’s aunt –mother’s younger sister- got a phone call.

The caller speaking chaste Hindi claimed that his gang abducted the boy and demanded Rs. 10 crore. Ten minutes later, he rang up again and urged the boy’s father to pay Rs. Five crore.

Meanwhile, the police traced the call to Secunderabad area and special police teams –along with the Commissioner’s Task Force teams- started searching for suspects in Secunderabad areas. An hour later, the TV package box with the boy’s body inside was found on roadside.
