Chandigarh residents will soon get an option to pay their pending electricity and water bills online through the e- Sampark project. The Union Terriotory administration is working on a plan to introduce e-banking facility on its official website by tying up with the leading banks.

The e-Sampark project was launched to bring services of all departments under one umbrella and give citizens a multi-service, single-window system. It is also aimed at getting rid of undue harassment and red-tapism.

As of now, e-Sampark has a tie-up with Axis Bank for direct payment, but consumer needs to have UTI Bank internet banking account 'IConnect' for the direct debit facility. Through e-banking-based online payment of bills security concerns will also be addressed, as it will have a two-tier security system. To start with, one needs to login into the e-governance section and after giving the consumer account number on the bill, the e-banking password would be entered.

The information technology department is working out the details of the e-banking project and the proposal will soon be sent to the finance department for approval so that agreements are finalized with banks.
