Chennai teen designing country's largest robot

The original robot will be bullet proofed that would facilitate two military men to attack the opponent entering inside the giant robot.

Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Chitti’ from the film Enthiran failed to enter Indian Army. But this robot designed by a Pammal student is capable of withstanding opponent’s strategies, unlike Chitti. G. Thirumurugan (17), a class 12 student in a private school here is making the country’s largest robot to not just help the army, but also to enroll himself in the Limca Book of Records.

“World’s biggest robot with 15-feet height is innovated in the US. Though there are many toy robots in India, giant robots are an absence,” he said. The lad had been making robots even before Enthiran movie had hit the screens. “When I was in sixth grade, I made an object avoiding car-shaped robot. It is the success that kept me going,” the youngster added. He is now working on a prototype of the giant robot, which would have advanced features. “The prototype robot, which is also 13-feet-tall as the original design has no bullet proof and is heavy weighted,” Thirumurugan said.

The original robot will be bullet proofed that would facilitate two military men to attack the opponent entering inside the giant robot. “While the gunner operates weapons, the other person would act as a driver,” explained the jubilant lad. The base of the robot will modify the height, thus facilitating an escape from the opponents, it was learnt. The estimated cost of the original robot will be around Rs 1 lakh.

Surfing Internet for models and purchasing the necessary equipment is almost a daily affair for him, which would have been impossible sans his mother’s support.
“He has bigger plans about robotic technology. But with the meager income, it is hard for me to cater to his passion,” said Selvi, his mother. Interested philanthropists can contact them on 9790958697.
