Absconding human trafficker nabbed

Kathmandu: Police today arrested an absconding human trafficking convict from Samakhusi of Kathmandu.

Devaki Giri, 31, a permanent resident of Khanikhola-6 of Dhading, was arrested by a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police.

Patan Appellate Court, on March 13, 2012, had convicted her of trafficking a young woman to Kolkata of India. She was sentenced to four years in jail in accordance with the Human Trafficking (Control) Act.

Meanwhile, police produced her before Kathmandu District Court for execution of the verdict today itself.

The Court sent her to the Central Jail in Sundhara.

Giri, on February 19, 2006, had sold a woman to a brothel in the Indian city for Rs 90,000, according to the Court verdict.
